This was my first time using this app and first time going camping in a long time, and I will be coming back. Curtis was more than accommodating for us and was very kind. Absolute gem of a person and a great site!
Most genuine man you’ll meet loved every minute of the stay and he was always helpful. This was my second time back to his campsite which I don’t do very often but he’s got a beautiful spot secluded from everyone and the spaces are all very spread so you won’t feel like ur camping with ur neighbors the whole time. Absolutely recommend if you’re lookin for a nice quiet time in the woods
Warm and dry Curtis was a great host! I was prepared to car/tent camp in 20° nights, but wasn’t prepared for the rain. He offered an upgrade to one of his RV rentals. Thankful to have heat and all the comforts of home. I was by a lovely, peaceful stream.
Curtis was a great guy. Very interesting fellow if you talk to him for a bit! His land was well kept and secluded. Campsites are spread out throughout his property. He also has a few trails around it! Perfect spot as far as location to get around. Can go further into NC (under an hour from Grandfather mt.) Or right down the road to TN! He has a few local spots close by that are amazing for hiking. Though be warned his favorite is not for the faint of heart! 🤣. Personally loved it though!
Great experience Curtis was a great host and very knowledgeable about the surrounding land and other hikes close to his property. The campsite was very well maintained and perfect in every way. I would definitely come back here again. Beautiful scenery and a gorgeous sunrise view over the mountains. Pet friendly and lots of wildlife around. Perfect camp site!
A perfect late fall weekend. Curtis is always an attentive host without intruding on privacy. The property is well maintained with thoughtful features that enhance the rustic camping experience. Curtis even created a new path on site 8 that makes it easier to get around on the property. Much appreciated. I will be back!
Quiet place by blue ridge parkway Loved this place! and the host was very nice upon my arrival. You could tell he goes out of his way to keep the place nice and create a good experience for his guests. The restroom was clean. And the shower? As far as outdoor showers go it was really cool and unique. Hes very crafty for making that the way he did. Also a small trail to check out if you feel like stretching your legs a bit. The road to the camp was paved except for a small portion I think was dirt, but I didnt have any issues on my large touring motorcycle with fairly low clearance.
Enjoyed my stay here very much. Would definitely recommend!
Great place to stay! Curtis is fantastic and the area is full of delightful surprises! I’ll be back again for sure!
Super beautiful and secluded location. Great place to camp if you’re trynna get away from the city and enjoy some mountain fresh air and weather. The shower was warm, there was plenty of space for a tent, and the scenery was great. Curtis was also very nice and helpful. Hope to stay again!
Great, beautiful area and campground. And Curtis is very lovely.
Curtis provided extremely helpful directions for finding this location as well as the best ways to maneuver your camper upon arrival. He was very available and answered/responded quickly. We didn't have a 50 amp to 30 amp adapter and he luckily had one for us to borrow during our stay! He had great knowledge about the local area, and gave directions to a waterfall hike not far from his site. The fish in his pond are super cool to go see, and if you're lucky you'll spot an otter early in the morning!
Tent camping on Curtis’ land was a great time! He told us about the area and the area we camped at was beautiful.
Nice and quiet overlooking a pretty little creek.
We absolutely loved it here! This was a great, quiet place.
Site has great view of the valley; and the nearest campsite is 50+ yards away and hard to see. It's shady from a big tree, but not many trees, so not great for tying up stuff if you need that. The host is great. Firewood was dry and burned, and he checked on us briefly each night to make sure we had what we needed. And he guided us to an amazing waterfall nearby that is not known much to public.
10/10 would highly recommend! 10/10 would recommend. Curtis was a fantastic host and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay on his property. Site 10 was nice and private although if you have neighbors their fire pit will overlook your site. It didn’t bother us and we thought it provided ample enough privacy. The grounds are beautiful and the area is spectacular. I highly recommend talking to Curtis about the history of the property and any suggestions he has to hikes or places to visit. It does help do download offline maps for navigation for the surrounding area. Curtis has great WiFi, but we did not have service anywhere else nearby. We can’t wait to come back and book again!
Great camping experience, host was incredibly kind, informative and you could tell he really cares about the area and his land
Great mountain views!! This is a really great, camping area. Great mountain view, campsites are spread out for privacy and the host is really helping friendly.
Wonderful Stay We loved our stay here! Curtis gave great recommendations and it was such a private area. The scenery was beautiful and we enjoyed seeing all the chipmunks! Totally recommend!
Always a lovely time at Curtis's place. Love it! Peaceful and comfortable.
Adventures of Curtisland We loved camping on this property! The RV was so incredibly cozy and had all the amenities that we needed. We enjoyed having such a vast and beautiful piece of land at our fingertips. We just wish we had more time to feed the fish! Curtis went out of his way to make us feel at home and told us of all the activities that were around the area. Even if you don’t go outside of the property to sightsee, you’ll have plenty of exploring to do on this expansive landscape. Shoutout to Curtis who made us smile!
Beautiful Mountain Views What an amazing trip! Curtis is the kindest host and has a beautiful property. We will definitely be back! Site 9 was perfect for two couples with a lovely fire pit and close to the bathroom and water. Waking up to the mountain was stunning!
Curtis gave us a lot of great information about the area and made us feel like family. The site is nice and quiet.
Highly recommended Curtis is very responsive and helpful. He greeted us and informed us about nearby attractions. The RV is on a scenic lot in the mountains. The RV has a porch with outdoor furniture and a grill. There is a great view of the stars at night. The RV has cable TV, a kitchen, bathroom and the plenty of room.
Camping at Curtis's We love camping on Curtis's land, it's want of the most beautiful areas we have camped and make a point to visit yearly. Curtis is one of the nicest host you will ever come across and is always there to lend anything you may need.
The campsite was pretty and Curtis was very accommodating! The shower was a natural spring water shower which was a rare treat for us!
Curtis was great, very peaceful and great hiking nearby. The field is great for star gazing
Peaceful and beautiful! Curtis was waiting for us in his golf cart and escorted us to our camp site. He had our fire wood in his cart and dropped it off while explaining the camp ground and how things work. Site 7 sits in between 2 stands of trees and provides a lot of privacy with easy access for our sprinter Van. As you know the facilities are primitive but the peace and quiet and friendliness of Curtis make this a beautiful mountain retreat.
Decent place with amazing host and a lot of space. We will come again!
Amazing stay Mr. Curtis was very very helpful at giving directions to his location and making sure I was always headed the right way and when I got there he greeted me showed me to my sight and answered all my questions! Highly recommend staying here with friends or family it’s the perfect place
We loved tent camping at Curtis's land-his recommendation on hikes and waterfalls made our visit a blast! We were able to swim in the nearby waterfall and the campsite was perfect right near the creek-stargazing was also beautiful.
Great Space With A Great Host! First of all Cirtis was a great host who showed us to our site and gave us great directions to hike and where to explore around the area. Had a great stay and was blown away at the layout and systems in place to make camping a good time. Shower with water that gets warm and a sink to brush your teeth but it’s big enough that you can get in and change and move around. There was a porta potty that was clean. Site had a campfire but I used my own. Paid for some wood that burned great. Got to explore nearby and will defiantly be back again.
Always an awesome experience! Can’t wait to go back!
Cozy Mountain Destination Great place to stay with all the modern amenities. Plenty of nearby attractions and destinations to explore. Host was amazing and very welcoming, had lot of information to share for local places of interest.
Beautiful spot at the top of the property. Very quiet with great amenities. I would definitely stay again! Curtis was nice to talk to and had a ton of information about the area!
Secluded and quiet Curtis is a wonderful host, he is very friendly and offered lots of good information about the local community as soon as I arrived. My campsite was very private and secluded which was exactly what I was looking for. I would definitely camp there again.
Had a great time great experience great host amazing area amazing near by swimming holes we simply loved it here!!!
Hidden Hideway The property is pretty cool. Beautiful trees, a little pond (you can feed but don’t fish). Didn’t go on his trails but we walked around. Nice primitive sites.
We appreciated Curtis and liked his property. He is a very creative man! Nearby are also awesome waterfalls.
We thoroughly enjoyed our quick trip to Curtis' cozy campground. Our site was private and comfortable with enough room to navigate our van onto a flat spot. Curtis was kind and gave us the perfect tips for finding local hikes and waterfalls. We will absolutely be back again!
Thanks Curtis! Will be back. It’s a long and windy road to get to this site, but it’s worth it. Lots of space between the campsites on a big open meadow surrounded by forest. Curtis has done a great job making each site private and also provides good amenities. The warm shower was great after long run up Grandfather mountain.
It is a wonderful place to relax and unwind. The sound of nature is incredible. Curtis' attention was excellent. Thank you.
My family and I loved camping on Curtis’s land. It’s always such an amazing time with gorgeous surroundings! Can’t wait to go back again. (:
Minutes from Waterfalls & Swimming This location is absolutely stunning! All the sites are a good distance away from each other without being far from everything. Our site had a lot of tree coverage so we did not worry about the sun heating our tent in the morning. I love that there were different types of sites, some were secluded in their own driveways and others were in the meadow where you could look up and see the mountains and stars. Curtis was so nice and gave us a lot of information about the area. He gave us detailed instructions on how to get to the close-by waterfall (8 mins away and so pretty). The showers was one of my favorite parts of this site. It is filtered spring water and the floor of the shower a rock slab. I could not have asked for a better camping trip for Labor Day weekend
Amazing Campsite I had an amazing time on Curtis’s land! He was an amazing host, very friendly and knowledgeable. The land was beautiful and a great location for hikes and mountain views! Toilet was a nice porta-potty and shower was a great rustic shower. Water tasted so good.
2 nights at Crooked Tree Curtis was an amazing host! He had great recommendations to go hiking. I loved the site I was at, it had an amazing view of the entire property at the top of the hill. The shower was also a very nice amenity after a long day hiking! Thanks Curtis!!
This campground is truly one of a kind! The descriptions of the sites are quite helpful and I do think there's a good one for every camper. Having it be Adults Only was a nice touch - we appreciated the break! Curtis was very friendly and helpful whenever needed. The only (relative) downside was trying to get the hot water on in the shower... I'm sure he could have helped us if we had let him know we struggled but we decided to enjoy our cold plunge shower instead. 🙂 Overall: Highly Recommend.
Best camping in NC I love this place so peaceful so nice to sleep on the creek. Curtis is very nice! 10/10
Heaven on Earth Well we found our piece of heaven here at Curtis’s land. So quiet and peaceful and our 2 year old Boxer gives it 4 paws up. We are already planning to come back to stay longer. Curtis has mindfully created this camp with lots of space and sweet amenities to satisfy all. Nanda, his co-host was very helpful in learning about the surrounding area. Curtis’s NASA background showed in the genius outdoor shower he created. Can’t wait to come back! Debra, Henry and Coco Belle
A few nights in site #7 Spent 3 nights on Curtis’ property. Our first night was in site 11 but we asked Curtis if we could move to site 7 for the next two nights. He was happy to accommodate as it was open. Lovely site with shade but right next to the meadow which is very pretty. Site 7 is fairly close to the outhouse, shower and water.
Curtis has a beautiful property with several good camping spots. He was very helpful and friendly. Try it, you won’t be disappointed.
Always an amazing stay! Curtis is always so responsive and fun to hang with.
Weekend getaway We were happy with our stay at the RV and Curtis the host was super nice. It didn’t start out great, but it ended very nice. Had some issue with a neighbor camper and their pups, but it was settles quickly. Would recommend to stay for a weekend getaway.
Great quiet, shady, and out of the way spot, that is only 8 miles to Beech Mountains parking lot. Really gorgeous area, and the sites are spread enough to provide some privacy. Shower is fed by super soft spring water. Curtis seemed to be a really nice person. We had a pretty good thunderstorm (60 mph wind gusts) one day while there, and he came around making sure everyone was okay afterwards. He also brought our firewood right to our camp site.
Curtis was such a joy to speak with and his land is a wonderful piece of property in a beautiful part of the mountains. The site was right next to a stream (the sound if rushing water was perfect!) and the table, grills, and fire pit was a great added touch. Our RV neighbors were friendly as well and their pups were an extra treat! Thanks so much for the waterfall recommendation, Curtis! It was one of the highlights of the trip! PS: The shower was SO GOOD! Thank you!
Curtis's land is absolutely beautiful! The amenities are great and it's very close to beech mountain! Curtis is an amazing host. Hot shower is also a huge plus!
Off the beaten path camping Mr. Church is awesome. He’s a wonderful host. He’s very knowledgeable about the area and has fantastic stories that make the stay even more rememberable. If your in the area you should stay here.
Beautiful operation Our host was excellent. He wanted us to know all we would need to best enhance our travel
If your looking for a quiet, beautiful, remote campsite with a view that the temperature is 20 degrees lower the the Piedmont look no further. We loved our 4 days here and look forward to returning!
Simply a quiet, lovely place, and Curtis is a great host.
Second trip this year to this site and can’t wait to come back. Everything is as advertised.
Peaceful and relaxing Great and peaceful. Glad there was no kids. Will definitely be back to try another site.
Peaceful getaway I really enjoyed my stay on Curtis’ land — it was just what I was looking for as a time to checkout and recharge. The shower and toilet are well maintained and the sites are well spaced and oriented. The cell signal was very strong if you want to stay connected. Stores and restaurants close enough if needed!
Loved it! Dark Ridge Hideout was just that... a hideout. A nice secluded spot on Beech Mountain. Very close to the resort (skiing and downhill mountain biking). Curtis was attentive and accommodating. He has lived on this land all of his life and was able to give us detailed suggestions on activities. Compression Falls is close... a very difficult hike to get down to it, but I highly recommend going. We will be back!
I loved staying on Curtis’s land! He met me on arrival, and showed me to my site, and pointed out the bathroom and shower. This site was at the top of the hill so it was a lovely view. The frogs near the pond were a little loud but it wasn’t too bad. The porta-porty was clean. I will definitely stay here again!
Get away from the crowds, tranquil Very clean, maintained with 2 fish ponds to entertain you but not for fishing but feel free to feed the fish which Curtis will be glad to show you. Very tranquil setting where you can view the sun rise and set just a few miles away. Central to practically every tourist attraction in the area without the crowds.
This was such a great camp spot! Curtis was so nice and gave us great hiking suggestions. If we are in the area in the future we definitely plan to stay here again!!!
I’ve stayed at this Hipcamp several times. Location, amenities, and the host are all great. I will definitely be coming back!
From the moment we arrived Curtis greeted us and showed us where everything was and let us know that he could help us with whatever we needed.
Will Come Again! Curtis was absolutely everything describe by many others in previous reviews! Genuine, attentive and easy to chat with. The property has so much character and the nightly light show (fireflies) was thrilling! The property was nicely divided for privacy and wood bundles (delivered to our site) were worth every penny - nice size and quality! A great place to unwind and relax!! Thank you Curtis for making this property available to us!
Weekend Stay at Dark Ridge Curtis was a very accommodating and friendly host. The campsites are large, and far enough apart to be private.
Great peaceful campsite This is our 4th time in less then a year camping at this location. For starts, Curtis always stays in touch once a reservation is made and meets and greets you at your location. He shows us everything we need to know about our site, which has always been one of the rental RV's on his property and is very thorough of all the inclusive. On this particular RV he had 3 tv's of which one was located outside and can be watched outdoors. We were very comfortable the entire time with both ac and heat functioning for the evening hours. Since this is our 4th time, we now know that all we need are clothes, food and drinks. Everything else is provided. Curtis is such a charmed southern gentleman that we have had nothing but great experiences in his campground. Beech Mountain is only 8 miles away, Banner Elk is 8 miles and Boone is only 22 miles away. Yet his location is in such a beautiful scenic area that we always enjoy the ride with the windows down. Thanks Curtis, as always for such an enjoyable stay at your campsite.
Great Camping Spot! Curtis is awesome and the campground is so nice and accommodating! There is water, a hot shower, clean portapotty and cute walking trail through the woods. The sites are nice and spacious with great star viewing! We will definitely be staying again next time we visit Beech!
Curtis has a great set up. Campsites are distanced so privacy abounds. Great firewood can be bought, it's dry and burns great. Clean shower house and bathroom. Curtis is really accommodating and was quick to provide assistance when we needed directions or firewood for the our fire. We will definitely return.
5 Stars—or More! Our first time using HipCamp. Curtis’ place is so beautiful and so well maintained. But what will make us return is Curtis himself. He worked so hard to ensure we had everything we needed and thought we had reserved. And then when we had mechanical issues with our brand new camper he was so incredibly helpful and fair. You’d be hard pressed to meet a nicer person. Highly recommend either the full hook up or tent sites.
Curtis was so sweet, and his land was absolutely beautiful! Despite the rain, we still had an amazing and memorable time.
Crooked tree 🌲 spot Awesome place to camp at we’ve stayed at the crooked tree spot for the past two visits great view and shade weather has been great both times, definitely our go to spot for a nice cruise down and up to beech mountain resort, so many trails all over the place
Our stay started out great but with heavy rains we had to leave a day early. Really enjoyed our stay and Curtis was a great host! Sites were spacious with an open field you could run around in, and a creek and ponds to explore. Lots of things to do in the area. We will definitely consider staying here again.
Beautiful and peaceful! Me and my friend primitive camped.
The host is awesome. The site was wonderful peaceful and exactly what we needed.
Site 10/10 Curtis was excellent at communication for directions to the site. I would highly recommend visiting and enjoying some real peace and quiet. Site 10 is right next to a small creek that runs between two hillsides that provides plenty of privacy. A small wooden foot bridge joins the parking area to the site. The site itself is very large and could accommodate larger groups. A charcoal grill and fire pit have been provided. Along with a stone fire pit near the creek.
I loved camping on Curtis’s land. He was a great host and gave clear instructions. Perfect for a weekend getaway!
Great campsites near waterfalls Curtis was very friendly and helpful. He told us where the good waterfall hiking trails were nearby and they did not disappoint! The port-a-john was absolutely spotless and conveniently located to where we stayed at campsite 9. All the listed amenities were available and Curtis' driving directions were easy to follow.
The tent site we stayed at was absolutely gorgeous. Right by the water, spot 10 I believe it was. Mr. Church was super nice and very helpful! We will definitely be returning!
Peaceful hipcamp in the mountains We were welcomed right away by Curtis, he is very genuine and informative about the area. We needed to rest for two days, and we did just that. We spent the time hiking with our dog and just enjoying the area. I would recommend this to anyone. Easy in and out hook ups. Beautiful peaceful stream and fish ponds. He supplied food to feed the fish, in the pond and that was awesome.
Very nice views from a multi-generational farm. Curtis was an excellent host, very friendly and informative about the local history. A nice place to camp for the night
Nice clean sites, great host! Definitely would stay here again.
Solo getaway Another great stay at CURTIS’s place. Such a great host, very friendly, and very attentive to your needs. Very well kept clean property and plenty of room for the kiddos or dogs to run around. Whenever I am in the area, I will definitely stay here again
Very kind host with deeply rooted, multigenerational local knowledge of the area!
Loved Camping by the creek. Nice and quiet. Close to Banner Elk for restaurants and shopping.
It was peaceful, Curtis was a great host and was easy to work with.
Beautiful place to camp, and Curtis was so helpful and welcoming. Definitely want to go back. We camped on site 5. Beautiful stargazing and a perfect sledding hill. We had a wonderful time. It was very peaceful and relaxing.
Amazing Place! Curtis' camp site was amazing! Beautiful property and clean camp sites. Curtis was always available and responsive over text, made us feel at home
Hidden Gem This place is a dream! We stayed for 6 weeks and we loved every minute. We booked right when the leaves were changing colors and it was so beautiful! The property is stunning! Curtis has several tent camping spots and several RV spots, all with amazing views, privacy, and fire pits (and most of grills too). Our RV spot was right next to a small babbling brook that just really set the vibe 🙂 And there is a small well-marked trail on the property that we would take the dogs on everyday. The location is perfect - you're 25 minutes from a grocery store in Banner Elk and about 40 minutes from Boone. There is also a small general store with pizza and other snacks about 10 minutes away. And the best part you're so close to amazing trailheads– our favorite was Compression Falls. Really strong Wifi, I work remotely and use Teams all day and had no issues. Curtis was an amazing host - great conversation and great recommendations. I felt safe and knew I could call Curtis if I needed anything. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a little piece and quite in the mountains! I can't wait to come back next year!
Camper was clean, warm, and dry. Curtis was very helpful with tips about waterfalls in the area.
Solo Getaway Beautiful area, I had site number five all the way at the top of the property. CURTIS is a great guy, you can tell he loves what he’s doing. Extremely clean bathroom and shower house was a plus. It was a clear night and I saw all the stars. Be sure to check out his two ponds full of fish, you can also feed them, very cool. If you’ve been thinking of staying here go ahead and pull the trigger, it’s beautiful. With all that being said, I’ll be back
great spot My boyfriend and I spent one night here for a weekend getaway and we’re really pleased with everything. Curtis was super friendly and suggested a lot of places to check out. As for the site itself was comfy, bathroom and shower were really clean and easy to access.Would definitely stay here again!
Solo camper Such a great spot! Curtis is great at giving detailed directions. Due to the lack of service in the are they are very helpful. Also a very safe environment for those of us who enjoy camping alone.
Awesome stay! Curtis is great an extremely friendly fellow. Plenty of space between each camp site nice facilities as well. Had a great time will def come back.
Peaceful Overall we had a great experience at a peaceful site along a small beautiful stream. Unfortunately, the shower situation was not working well. After the first day we notified Curtis who responded quickly and someone had messed with the shower settings and it was fixed, however it was just as bad the next morning. The water temp had two settings, either ice cold or scalding hot, neither of which we could stand under, and the water pressure was mostly just trickling. We hike a lot during our camping trips and a good working shower is a necessity for us so unfortunately this was a problem. The shower area does have a sink and mirror which was nice. Other than the shower, the site was great, great communication, easy access to site.
Great host, great location. Beautiful property. Loved my spot. I will definitely be back.
This is our 3rd time back to The Hide Out. We always have a great time and will keep coming back. Curtis is a great host.
